Carrier Oils: The Complete List
Updated: We are adding 11 new oils and updating the list for 2023.
One of the best parts of the work we do here at the Lipid Oils Academy is order and play with all the new carrier oils and lipids out there. And, our wonderful students and community are always sharing new oils with us as well.
Carrier oils, butters and lipid oils as defined here are all the oils and butters made up of fatty acids and pressed from seeds, nuts, kernels and fatty fruits.
Some oils on this list you might recognize for their essential oil name sake, but every oil here is a lipid oil.
Some you will likely find familiar while others will likely be completely new.

Olivia Parker
I'm Olivia Parker, Susan's business partner, and daughter. While my mom has a keen interest and expertise in the oils and plants I look to the trends and developments in the health and skincare space to understand what budding and experienced formulators need to stay competitive in the cosmetic and skincare worlds.
Thank you very much for sharing. Much appreciated.
Interesting that there is no oils that start with Z! You learn something new every day
Thanks Susan
My friends and I had a wonderful time reading this list of oils… Splendid list and I imagine some splendid oils I’ve yet to experience…
I thought you used to have a comprehensive worldwide sourcing list for carrier oils… am I mistaken?
I’m very interested in Clary Sage Seed Oil. Are you going to post or write about the properties of the new oils soon?
I know the Lipids are not the same as the Essential ‘Oils’, however I have noticed in some cases some of the same properties have crossed the barrier. Clary Sage EO offers so many wonderful benefits (esp for us girls) and would love to know about the Seed Oil.
I have used 36 oils in the list.
It’s an amazing list. Thank you for sharing this information.
I have used 134 of these- since it is just a hobby and only for myself, some oils on this list are not suitable for me. Others have remained elusive due to lack of source. For example, Lunaria and Cabbage Seed Oils .. lovely to see this comprehensive list! I also enjoy some Australian oils such as finger lime, flannel flower, and snowflower. Thank you for your research and available information!
So many oils. Some of them i didnt knew
tks
Siii. Conozco varios y los he usado. Puedo aportar los nombres de las productoras para wue proporcionen información y fichas técnicas.
Aceite de semilla de Papaya chilena
Aceite de maqui
I counted to 31 oils that I have used. Must curb my urge to collect and use what I’ve got.
I’ve used 58 of these. I’ve never counted before! This is an impressive list, Susan & Olivia! Thank you for compiling it.
I love the list. I would love to also see the properties of each, as well. Thanks.
I used before olive, castor, mustard oil
I love this list. Now I can go into my shelves and fridge and see how to do the same! Thank you!
In the guide / list , is there a resource listed to purchase the oils ? Thank you for the comprehensive list !
Hi Susan,
Is it necessary or better to keep carrier oils in the refrigerator?
Wow………….this is quite an impressive collection!!!! Your fridge must be packed!!! I too have never heard of some of these oils. Thank you for sharing this Susan:)
I have only purchased about 15 of oils on this list!! This is quite a list of oils some I have not heard of.
Fabulous…oils I had not heard of
Wow! Thats an awesome list.thanks
