Calendula Body Oil Recipe

Calendula has long been known as the skin herb, for its exceptional anti-inflammatory and healing properties. light enough to use in warm weather, yet deeply nourishing as we transition into fall.

This recipe combines a calendula infused oil with a handful of carefully chosen carrier oils to create a replenishing, absorbent body oil that supports skin repair, calms irritation, and leaves the skin soft and nourished. Perfect as we transition from the heat of summer into early fall.

The Recipe (120 ml / 4 oz)

50 ml (42%) Calendula-infused Sesame Oil
35 ml (29%) Meadowfoam Seed Oil
20 ml (17%) Sunflower Oil (high oleic)
10 ml (8%) Rosehip Seed Oil, preferably unrefined
4 ml (3%) Sea Buckthorn Fruit Oil
1 ml (1%) Vitamin E Oil

Why These Ingredients Work

Calendula-Infused Sesame Oil: brings calendula's anti-inflammatory and healing compounds; sesame adds antioxidants and helps oils penetrate deeply.

  • Meadowfoam Seed Oil: exceptionally stable and protective, gives a silky, luxurious skin feel.
  • Sunflower Oil (High Oleic): light and stable, high in vitamin E, excellent for sensitive skin.
  • Rosehip Seed Oil: regenerative, helps reduce scarring, rich in essential fatty acids.
  • Sea Buckthorn Fruit Oil: supplies carotenoids and omega-7 fatty acids, supports barrier repair and gives a beautiful golden hue.
  • Vitamin E Oil: antioxidant that extends shelf life and supports skin healing.

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace, clean and sanitize all containers and tools
  2. Measure oils accurately using a digital scale
  3. Combine oils in a clean glass bottle
  4. Mix by gently rolling the bottle between your palms
  5. Label with ingredients and the date made

Pro tip: Warm a few drops in your palms before applying, this helps the oil absorb into the skin more quickly.

How to Use

For healing and irritation - apply 2–3 times daily to affected areas.
For daily care - smooth onto slightly damp skin after bathing.
A little goes a long way - too much body oil will always feel heavy, so start with a small amount and add more as needed.

Storage & Shelf Life

Store in a cool, dark place (refrigeration extends shelf life)
Shelf life: 6–12 months, with Vitamin E helping preserve freshness
Use a dark glass bottle with a pump or dropper

Customization Ideas

For very sensitive skin: reduce sea buckthorn to 2 ml and increase meadowfoam
For mature skin: add 5 ml argan oil (reduce sunflower by 5 ml)
For very dry skin: add 10 ml avocado oil (reduce sunflower slightly)
Always patch test before wider use

Notes:

Late summer is the perfect time to start using your calendula-infused oil into recipes and formulas. This body oil is nice because it doesn't feel heavy in warm weather, but it is also rich enough to start fortifying your skin for the seasonal shift ahead.
