You missed out!

In this workshop you will learn how to use calendula infused oil in skincare and topical medicinal balms and formulas.

What you’ll learn in this workshop:
  • The science behind what compounds transfer to the oil during the infusing process.
  • How triterpenoids, such as ursolic acid and saponin glycosides in calendula along with numerous other compounds give calendula its potent anti-inflammatory skin healing and nourishing properties.
  • Methods and tips for infusing your own calendula leaf oil.

Meet Calendula (Calendula officinalis)

Here in Portland, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest, calendula blooms through the winter, but in spring and early summer it is the most prolific and abundant flower popping up in gardens all over our neighborhood.

Calendula is often known as the skin herb because it is such a wonderful all around healing, restoring and nourishing plant.

Picking calendula blossoms by hand will leave your fingers sticky with loose petals, twigs, and bits of plant and dirt clinging to them until washed off with soap. The sticky quality is primarily due to the presence of triterpenoids, such as ursolic acid and saponin glycosides. We will be looking at these compounds in calendula and the skin benefits they provide in the upcoming workshop.
