Meet Calendula (Calendula officinalis)

Here in Portland, calendula flowers from early spring through late fall and in more mild climates it can bloom year round! But whether you're growing it in your garden or purchasing dried flowers from a trusted herb supplier, calendula is readily available in many areas of the world.

Picking calendula blossoms by hand will leave your fingers sticky with loose petals, twigs, and bits of plant and dirt clinging to them until washed off with soap. The sticky quality is primarily due to the presence of triterpenoids, such as ursolic acid and saponin glycosides.

We will be looking at these compounds in calendula and the skin benefits they provide in the upcoming workshop.

I'm Susan M Parker and the plants have always been my guides...

I trained as an herbalist before opening my skincare business in the late 90s, and it was during that training that I fell in love with making herbal oil infusions.

That early fascination led me to study plant lipids in greater depth, which eventually led to my book, Power of the Seed: Your Guide to Oils for Health and Beauty and then to founding the Lipid Oils Academy.

Now I get to share this study with students from around the world, and I'm so glad you're here.
